Entrepreneurship & Livelihoods Projects

The Orange Corners Incubation and Acceleration Component

The Orange Corners Incubation and Acceleration Component in South Sudan, implemented by BizEx Limited, is a youth-focused entrepreneurship initiative under the global Orange Corners framework of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency. Launched in 2023, the programme supports young entrepreneurs aged 18–35 to transform business ideas into viable and scalable enterprises.

Through a structured incubation and acceleration approach, the project provides business training, mentorship, market linkages, and access to finance. It equips startups with practical skills in business development, financial management, and investment readiness, while also connecting them with industry experts and potential investors.

The programme contributes to strengthening South Sudan’s entrepreneurial ecosystem by promoting innovation, supporting youth employment, and fostering sustainable, locally driven businesses – with a strong emphasis on inclusion, particularly for women and underserved groups.

Strengthening Capacity of SMEs on Digital Trade and E-Commerce for the AfCFTA in South Sudan

The Strengthening Capacity of SMEs on Digital Trade and E-Commerce for the AfCFTA in South Sudan project, implemented by BizEx Limited in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, was delivered from November 2022 to March 2023 to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in transitioning into the digital economy.

The project focused on building practical skills in digital trade, e-commerce, and business management, enabling over 2,100 SMEs across four states – Juba, Wau, Torit, and Renk – to adopt online business practices. Entrepreneurs received hands-on training in digital literacy, online marketing, financial planning, and e-commerce operations, along with direct onboarding to South Sudan’s first dedicated online marketplace, Dukaanye.

Through a participatory and locally adapted training approach, the project combined capacity building, digital platform access, and ecosystem engagement to help SMEs overcome barriers to technology adoption. It also included training for policymakers and the development of training modules to strengthen long-term institutional capacity.

By enhancing digital capabilities and market access, the initiative contributed to increased business efficiency, expanded trade opportunities under the AfCFTA framework, and strengthened youth and women’s participation in South Sudan’s emerging digital economy.

Community Economic Transformation through Skills Enhancement, Private Sector Development, and Digital TradeSouth Sudan

The Community Economic Transformation through Skills Enhancement, Private Sector Development, and Digital Trade project, implemented by BizEx Limited in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, focuses on strengthening the digital and business capacities of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across South Sudan.

Delivered in 2024, the initiative trained over 2,100 MSMEs across Rumbek, Yambio, Aweil, and Bor through a structured programme combining Training of Trainers (ToT) and hands-on entrepreneurship development. The project emphasized practical skills in digital trade, e-commerce operations, business planning, and digital marketing, using interactive and locally adapted training methodologies.

A key achievement of the project was supporting the creation of more than 600 digital stores on the Dukaanye platform, enabling entrepreneurs to transition from traditional business models to online marketplaces. The programme also prioritized inclusion, with strong participation from youth and women, and actively engaged students, agripreneurs, and small traders.

By integrating MSMEs into the digital economy and strengthening local capacities, the project contributes to economic diversification, job creation, and the development of a more inclusive and resilient private sector in South Sudan.
